The Sacramento Kings rookie made history on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies, posting 38 points on 12-of-25 shooting, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. His nine 3-pointers made, out of 14 attempts, tied the NBA single-game rookie record and are the most ever by a teenager .
It was his second straight 30-point game, and his third in six career games.
Unfortunately, that performance was a bright spot in an otherwise dull night for the Kings, who lost 136-105 to the Grizzlies. On the other side, Acuff's fellow rookie Cameron Boozer led Memphis with 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting with 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 turnovers.
The Kings are now 0-6, while the Grizzlies are 6-0.
Acuff and Boozer are both notable members of one of the most hyped NBA rookie classes in recent memory. Sacramento took Acuff seventh overall after an All-American season at Arkansas, in which he also earned SEC Player of the Year honors and the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's best point guard.
The Kings might be trending toward another miserable season after going 22-60 last time around, but a strong rookie season for Acuff would make up for plenty of losses when evaluating the team's future.
