NBA Fans Criticize Paul Pierce's Spending After Court Filing Says His Monthly Income Fell From $119,000 to Zero
Paul Pierce’s finances are now at the center of his child support fight with his ex, Princess Santiago. In court documents obtained by TMZ and reported Tuesday, the former NBA star said his average monthly income has fallen from $119,000 to zero since his payments from Fox Sports stopped.
Fans were quick to criticize him. Much of the criticism set that claim against the roughly $200 million Pierce reportedly earned during his NBA career. Beyond that, one fan zeroed in on the monthly bills he listed in the same filing, while another took aim at the choices he has made.
Paul Pierce’s Filing Is Measured Against His Reported NBA Earnings
Santiago is seeking $40,000 toward legal fees, along with an additional $10,000 so a forensic accountant can examine his finances, and the court filing is a response to those requests. His attorney said Pierce would have “great difficulty” covering those fees and was “drowning financially.” The attorney pointed to the termination of his Fox Sports contract.
Pierce said his last check from the network came in August. He reported earning about $23,000 last month from partnership interests in other business ventures, while paying about $28,000 a month in child support and another $20,000 in spousal support.

One fan responded to the report Tuesday morning: “200 mill in the NBA + whatever else. Change your lifestyle. Downsize. This being a story is ridiculous.”
Another fan made the same case: “If you make $200 million and have almost nothing now, you’re an idiot!”
Assets outside his monthly income do appear in the filing. Pierce said he has $3 million in property, along with $300,000 in the bank.
Pierce also laid out about $48,000 a month in bills. Those include $8,000 for childcare, $3,500 for entertainment, $3,200 for utilities and $1,000 for clothes, along with various other expenses.
One fan focused on the food budget: “12K a month on food is insane.”
Pierce listed $5,000 a month for groceries and another $7,000 for eating out. Combined, those two lines match the fan’s figure.
Another fan turned to Pierce’s choices, calling him “one of those self-destructive OGs who give red pill advice that has made his own life worse.” The fan also wrote that “his foolishness cost him a great job,” adding: “If he were a wiser older gentleman, he would’ve lived nicely instead of giving such bad advice.”
Pierce, who has not played in the NBA since 2017, said in an earlier filing, reported by TMZ in July, that his employment with Fox Sports 1 ended in 2021 but that payments from the network would continue into this year. He said then that he reported $1.5 million in income for 2025, a year in which the network’s payments were still coming in.

In that filing, he also said he supports four other children and that Santiago earns more than $400,000 a year. She had asked for $30,000 a month in child support for their son, King, plus $100,000 in legal fees, while Pierce proposed about $4,145 a month and said he had been voluntarily paying $5,000.
The court later ordered Pierce to pay Santiago $8,508 a month in temporary child support, roughly double what he had proposed, along with $100,000 in legal fees. Her latest requests followed that order, and Pierce is now asking the court to deny both the legal fees and the forensic accountant.
