On Wednesday, June 4, the 25-year-old singer announced her newest single, "Please Please Please" — but fans had spotted those words before. Devotees of the singer were quick to remember that social media star Emma Chamberlain and Theater Camp's Owen Thiele had held a sign reading "PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLAY ESPRESSO!" at Carpenter's Coachella set in April. The sign had caught the attention of Carpenter onstage, who read it out to the audience, seen in a video posted to TikTok with over 2 million views.
